Job Summary:
Miller Kaplan seeks a curious, driven, self-starter, data miner and data analyst with excellent computer/software skills for its’ growing payroll compliance practice.  The Senior Payroll Compliance Analyst (“SPCA”) assists trust fund clients by assessing employers’ compliance with pension and health contributions made to various funds based upon employee compensation.  This position handles a high volume of electronic data in varied formats such as Excel, text, comma delimited, PDFs and Access databases.  To determine employee compensation, the SPCA must extract, review and analyze relevant data from employee contracts, collective bargaining agreements, general ledgers, payroll reports and various other reports in digital file formats while adhering to client budgets.  The SPCA is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while balancing multiple tasks at any given time.  The SPCA must be a good note taker since job training is one on one via hands on instruction.  The SPCA must enjoy problem solving and researching the internet for answers to anything from software issues to new terminology.  The SPCA must be dedicated to managing their time effectively, working efficiently, conducting timely follow-up,  and getting the job done even when no one is looking.  For candidates also seeking a CPA license, Miller Kaplan offers cross-training with its’ financial statement audit groups at various times throughout the year.

Your Part:
  • Perform test procedures to ascertain compliance with entertainment union and guild agreements with respect to the contractual contributions made by employers.
  • Conduct onsite and offsite audits, inclusive of reviewing and analyzing accounting/payroll records.
  • Work closely with Payroll Compliance Auditor(s) and Managers.
  • Communicates to Management on deadlines, status of audit procedures and any difficulties encountered including possible solutions.
  • Suggest improvements in testing methodologies, when and where applicable.
  • Write executive summary reports for each audit which includes issues disclosed and driving factors.
  • Maintain excellent client relationships.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

About You:
  • 2+ years’ experience in Audit, Accounting, Bookkeeping, or Payroll.
  • Understanding of television and film production and distribution.
  • Understanding of entertainment pension, health and welfare contributions.
  • Working knowledge of the types of compensation within guild agreements including residuals that employers pay contributions upon.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (e.g., V-Look-up, Pivot tables, filtering, subtotals, nested functions, text to column, right left parse, concatenate) and Access (e.g., Import files, query construction, query export, join fields, append tables, cross tabs).
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Customer service oriented.
  • Strong data analysis proficiency using a variety of software packages.
  • Strong quantitative and analytic skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Ability to schedule, track and perform multiple tasks, meet deadlines and adapt to fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Some travel required to client work sites in and out of the greater L.A. area.

Required Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business Administration.
